Meet the Storyteller

There's really no one way to be.

Becoming a writer was less of a step-by-step process and more of an on-again-off-again situationship. And while I do write, therefore I am a writer (I guess), it's usually said cringing. Maybe even through gritted teeth.

Nobody explains to you when you can start calling yourself a writer. The doe-eyed dreamers might say I've always been one. Cynics will say you can't be a writer until you're published, and successful, which usually means you're getting paid. But I've found that, like most things, there's an in-between.

I spend a lot of time focusing on my MFA, which I'm pursuing at The New School. When I'm not working or getting schooled, I'm a reader for LIT Magazine, the brainchild of the Masters in Fine Arts of Creative Writing at The New School. Their words, not mine.

I'm also a staff writer and editor for PLAYBUTCH, an online literary and arts zine curated by lesbians, for lesbians. I contribute 1 to 3 pieces regularly, so check us out!

And, somehow, I even managed to create a literary and arts zine with my best friend and love of my life, Jay. We're co-editors-in-chief of Sink or Miss, a brand new zine for lesbians. We're currently working on our first issue, which should be published by the end of the month!

The writing bug never really  leaves me anymore. Thankfully. I'll knock on wood and hope I don't jinx it, though.

What do you even write?

Glad you asked.

I usually write what hurts me, comforts me, and amuses me. I hope it hurts, comforts, and amuses you, too.
